Why Icarus

Why there is a small figure with wings flying toward the sun at the top of this journal.

If you turn on space mode here, a small figure with feathered wings flies toward the sun behind the page. That is Icarus.

In the myth, his father Daedalus built them both wings of feathers and wax and warned him not to fly too high. He did anyway, and the sun melted the wax.

I tried a version with both father and son, then went back to Icarus alone. The journal is about trying things, and he is a good reminder of both sides of that: aim high, but pay attention to what is holding you up.

He took more redrawing than any other part of the site. Fitting, probably.
